Part 7

Now, that I got you caught up briefly on the last blog entry. Let’s tell you what we have done with the Big Shack the past few weeks. Though, it may not seem like a lot of progress to some. We have certain steps we are taking to continue to others. Plus, we still have regular life to live and work.

It was time to cut our first holes in the camper. We wanted to install the windows, outdoor shower and water fill connection boxes. It was an eerie feeling cutting these holes in the walls. Once, they are cut there is no going back. Thank goodness these went pretty smoothly.

Jacob cut the wall members to add extra support framing for the windows. Now, it was time to cut our first hole for the window area. This one will be in the kitchen area. We installed the vent for the stove area as well. After, a little wiggle and jiggle the first set was in. Our windows have a black out shade and a regular screen shade. They will be really nice.

Let me do the first window unveiling for you and give you a view of the side. They look so small from the outside of the trailer. But from the inside they are a nice size. Oh, wave “hi’ to Jacob!

Then, it was time for the second window. A cut here and there it was in. Yeah, I make it seem so simple. Though, it went a lot smoother than we anticipated. We also cut the hole and installed the shower vent. This vent will also have a light in it. Call us “fancy” just kidding.

Our objective in building the camper is to start at the front and work towards the doors. So, next it was time to work on the bed framing and “garage” area. We mounted 2×4’s at the head, side and foot of the bed area. Jacob worked on the bed structure while I was out of town. He fastened four 2×4‘s to the bed wall frame. He built the wall that will separate the garage area from the front inside of the trailer. He did some wiring for the garage lights and switches, as well.

He did some painting of the back garage wall and doors. That catches you all up to today! I painted the wall Jacob built. While he painted the underside of the bed structure. Sometimes, laying down on the job has its benefits. Now, to allow the paint to dry. Tomorrow, we install the wall.
