Day 33
Yesterday, we (my father, Jacob and myself) made plans to have breakfast at Wanda’s Restaurant in Rock Spring, GA with my younger brother and nephew. We’ve had breakfast here once before. It seems to be the town favorite. We walked in and the place was super loud and crowded. Though, I had my quiet time earlier this morning reading my bible. I don’t think, I was quite ready for the sensory overload. I was not prepared and not in the mood for noise. I guess, I should have been with all the cars in the parking lot.
Afterwards, we met my brother at antique consignment shop. I like going to these types of places and looking around. But, I have to wonder at some of the items in there. They do not ALWAYS look antiques. But more like random junk mixed with some older things people place in their rented cubical areas. I do like when I see things from when I was a child. But, does that mean that I’m old or those items are antiques? The most interesting thing in the shop was a picture of Amsterdam. Jacob had spotted it. Since, he is from there and I have visited several times; I wondered if those were some of the streets, I have walked.

I spotted some picture frames with black and white photos of people. I could not help but wonder what was their life stories? How life was for these people? Why didn’t their loved ones still have this pictures? Maybe because of all the new age media and technology. Does their family know the pictures are sitting on a shelf for some stranger to purchase? Maybe, they don’t even know these people just like me when I see picture of people I am “related’ too. But, I still want to know about my “family”. I wonder could, I find someone related to one of these people and have the picture returned. Would they even care?

As, I am wondering around I have a sense something or someone is missing. I was right! Jacob had left the store and was across the street wondering around. So, I joined him as my father, brother and nephew continued at the shop and visit. Quickly, we spotted another place that looked more interesting to us. So, we walked over there.

It was another antique place but had cool signs and other items. We used to watch a show called “American Pickers”. This place looked like somewhere they would like to explore. It was at once a cotton gin. It had several signs of oil, gas, motorcycles, cigarettes, and older toy trucks. You could say it was more of a “guy type” antique place.

I have to admit…if house phones were still a “thing”. I would have bought this on. It was a 1957 Chevy Belair car and phone. That is one of my favorite cars. It was my favorite item to spot. Well, along with the Betty Boop light. Betty Boop has always been a favorite cartoon character. Maybe, because we both have big eyes and red lips.

After a while, we walked back over to the first shop where my brother, nephew and father were still looking around and visiting with the owner. We finally gathered them up and walked to a coffee shop. But, they were having a private event. The door to go into the shop looks like we were entering it from the back.

Since, that did not work out it was time to part ways. My father drove around LaFayette showing Jacob various place of his childhood. He shared stories of his memories. He has a lot of history here since it is his home town.
One place that brings memories back to me is a house my grandparents lived in. My sister and I spent lots of time here during the summer as kids. We would walk throughout the acres of land my grandfather had with his (our) dog Prince following behind. I was sad to see a house that I once thought was so big look so small and run down. My father build many things in a shop on the property. Most of it has fallen already, it looks like with one gust of wind it would be on gone.

Once, we got back home. We all settled into doing our own thing. My father had put some bird seed in his feeders. Later, I saw cardinals stopping in for a nibble of food. I tried to capture pictures of them as several were perched on the feeder.

I did get one photo of two cardinals. The female sitting still on top of the feeder pole and the male at the bottom. I like to think it was a sign of grandparents “thanking me for visiting a special place they once lived”

I want to thank you for continuing to read my blogs. They are random and have various parts to them. But, I hope you still think they are interesting.
