Day 24

Today, was another new for me. Paulette’s son Marvin works for the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum. He provided us with tickets for a train ride. I thought it was so nice of him.

TVRM (Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum) most frequent service is called the “Local” for short. It begins at Grand Junction Station and takes passengers over four bridges. We also traveled through the pre-Civil War Missionary Ridge Tunnel built in 1852-54. This train operates over 3 miles near other original East Tennessee, Virginia and Georgia Railroad. It uses pre-1930 equipment to East Chattanooga terminus.

One of the most interesting parts of our tour and ride was the turning of the locomotive. We were shown how they turn the locomotive around on the turntable bridge. A railway turntable or wheelhouse is a device used for turning locomotives to face the other direction. It is used especially when there is not enough economic space to turn around. It was interesting to see.

So, since I did not take any pictures I made up for it today. Once, we were done with the train ride. We did also tour the museum. It was a fun day.

There was a bum on the train. He was not begging for money. He was probably drunk or something. I managed to get a picture without disturbing him. I am surprised they did not kick him off the train.
