Day 21

Today, was a Sunday Church day. Jacob made us breakfast as I got ready.

I remembered as a teenager going to Gordon Lake Wesleyan Church. It seemed like the pastor at that time would listen to the church gossip. And on Sunday, morning “you” were nonchalantly called out. I don’t know if it was just my conscience. Maybe, the fact that I already heard what people in church were discussing. As, a teenager things like that can be very uncomfortable. Many people know there is plenty of versus in the Bible about gossip. One of them being Romans 1:29 “Gossips and slanderers are included in the list of sins”. But, living with my father, there was no choice every Sunday morning and evening we were going. He has been going to this church since he was a child.

No don’t get me wrong, I am a Christian. I say it proudly! I have nothing against going to church. But, now I’m an adult and it’s my choice to go or not.

Over, the years since I left Lafayette, pastors have changed. The church has been remodeled several times. Many of the older generations have passed away. While others have left and news one arrived. Today, Pastor Ashley and his wife Mitzi are the over the church. I first met Pastor Ashley at my father’s late wife’s passing. I knew, from the moment I met him I liked him. He is very humbling and just down to earth. I while living in Texas, I still texted him every now and then. And on some Sunday mornings, I tune in on Facebook to hear him preach.

I don’t own the rights to this song.

On day 20, I spoke about my high school having a 30 yr reunion. How, I did not care to go because of how I was treated by several of my fellow peers. Well, the only person I truly cared to see from the reunion was my cousin Jeff Hill. And today, at church I was able to see him. So, my reunion moment is over. Ha, ha! I just don’t remember him being such a big and tall guy. He just so nice and I have always felt close to him in school. Though, I never shared my troubles with him or anyone else.

Gordon Lake is a small church. They recently had two mission trips to Uganda and Nicaragua. It was great to hear how a small country church can make such a big impact. Where two or three gather in my name, there am I am with them Matthew 18:20. I was singing praise and worship afterwards two ladies turned around to me. They had tears in their eyes as one said “Your voice is so beautiful.” I was wondering if they could hear good. Ha ha! I was humbled by their compliment.

After church service, we went to Community Baptist Church. This is the church my father attends on Sunday evenings. His “lady friend” Paulette attends this church as well. They were having a spaghetti luncheon to raise funds for their mission trip to Guatemala.

Look how beautiful Paulette is dress and how suit sharp my father is.

They were also having a silent auction on homemade cakes and pies. Paulette told me she was going to make Banana Pudding. Paulette puts crushed pineapple in her banana pudding. I knew, I had to have some.Jacob made the highest bid on it. Well between Jacob and my Father we ended up with Paulette’s banana pudding, a lemon cake and white cake. Thank goodness, we gave some away. Can you say DIABETES??? Ha ha.

I have to say “this was some of the best banana pudding I have EVER had.”

My dad also donated more to the mission trip. He was given an aluminum pan of spaghetti. We went to the store and bought containers to divide it up in. He is going to give some to my brother. As well as save some for himself. He had cake and spaghetti for days!!!! Ha ha !

Paulette came over after the luncheon and visited for a while. We talked about several subjects. She is really funny and nice lady. We talked and laughed a lot. She stayed so long it was time for Sunday evening service. So, she left and shortly afterwards my father and I did as well.
