Day 3

Early this morning, we were awakened by heavy rain, thunder and lightning. It did not bother the dogs one bit. But, for us it was 4:14am and we had a few things to check on.

Jacob got up. He checked the awning to make sure it was not collecting water. We have a small drip from the fan/ vent area. So he put a bowl down to collect any rain from it. The front middle seam of the canvas by the bed leaks too! We usually have to put a towel down. The aluminum roof makes the rain drops louder than what they real are. Needless to say, we just did not sleep too soundly.

Though, we did not sleep well a hot shower will help wake me up. It seems like such luxury to shower while camping. Later, I did my morning reading up stairs . While, Jacob did some work down stairs.

Finally, the end of the rain arrived. As the sun peeked through the clouds. It was a nice sight. It is beautiful how just a little bit of sunshine makes things come alive. The birds were singing with happiness. The frogs were croaking and we were out of The Shack walking around.

We walked to the campground store. I went to see what was available. I found the alligator, they said not to approach or feed. It was small maybe a foot long. Like most things it was cute as a baby.

The store had a T-shirt that said “ I hiked Lake Livingston…Well, actually I got out, walked around a little, took a few pictures, ate a snack, went to the gift shop, then got back in the car and took one more look at the lake.” Ironically, that pretty much sum up Jacob and my camping trip here so far. This park is actually very pretty. By the store, there is a long boat dock and fishing pier. We walked out on it as we enjoyed to cool crisp air.

On the way back to The Shack, I spotted a little red visitor (Red Cardinal). It always comforting to see them to me. The red cardinal symbolizes hope, love, renewal, energy, passion, courage, luck, abundance and is often seen as a spiritual sign. It an enduring connection with those who have passed. There a popular quote “Cardinals appear when Angels are near.”

The beauty about nature and exploring is we/you can see things that we normally don’t. I’m always amazed at its vastness. For example, these oyster mushrooms growing on the side of a tree. Now, I do not like mushrooms. But, these are edible. They are high in antioxidants, help with heart health, immune system, blood sugar, bone health, weight management, inflammation and brain function. There are several recipes available online for them. So, who wants me to go gather them for you?

Tomorrow, we leave and yes the sun is supposed to be out!
